🔋 Battery Recycling, Handling and Shipping Statement
3C-Easy Markham is committed to the safe handling, temporary storage, transportation, and recycling of lithium-ion and other rechargeable batteries.
Authorized Public Battery Drop-Off Location
3C-Easy Markham is an authorized Call2Recycle public battery drop-off location.
Members of the public may bring eligible household and portable batteries to our store for recycling, even if the batteries were not originally purchased from 3C-Easy Markham.
Acceptance is subject to the requirements of the Call2Recycle program and may depend on:
- battery chemistry;
- battery size and weight;
- physical condition;
- whether the battery is loose or contained in a device; and
- applicable safety and packaging requirements.
E-mobility batteries are not accepted at this location. This includes batteries from e-bikes, e-scooters, mobility devices, and similar transportation products.
Customers with e-mobility batteries should contact Call2Recycle, their municipality, the product manufacturer, or an appropriate hazardous-waste facility for disposal instructions.
Safe Handling and Regulatory Compliance
Batteries handled or transported by 3C-Easy Markham are managed in accordance with applicable Canadian transportation, workplace-safety, environmental, carrier, and recycling requirements.
Where applicable, lithium-ion batteries may be classified for transportation as:
- UN3480 — Lithium-ion batteries, when transported separately; or
- UN3481 — Lithium-ion batteries packed with or contained in equipment.
Packaging, labelling, documentation, carrier acceptance, and transportation requirements may vary according to battery type, condition, capacity, packaging configuration, and destination.
Keep Batteries Out of Household Waste
Batteries must never be placed in household garbage, municipal recycling bins, or other general waste containers.
Improperly discarded batteries may be crushed or damaged during collection and processing, creating a risk of fire, heat, smoke, or environmental contamination.
Where appropriate, exposed battery terminals should be individually protected with non-conductive tape before the battery is transported or placed in an approved collection container.
Batteries should be kept separate from keys, coins, tools, metal objects, and other conductive materials.
Eligible Public Drop-Off Batteries
The store generally accepts eligible household and portable batteries covered by the Call2Recycle collection program, subject to applicable program and safety requirements.
Examples may include eligible batteries used in:
- cellphones and tablets;
- laptops and portable electronics;
- cameras;
- cordless phones;
- remote controls;
- toys;
- flashlights;
- small household electronics;
- power tools; and
- other portable consumer products.
Customers should contact the store in advance regarding unusually large batteries, commercial quantities, specialized battery packs, or any battery whose eligibility is uncertain.
Damaged, Defective, Swollen, Leaking or Recalled Batteries
Damaged, defective, swollen, punctured, leaking, burned, overheated, crushed, or recalled lithium batteries require special handling.
Customers must not:
- place these batteries in household garbage or municipal recycling;
- place them directly into a standard battery collection box;
- mail or courier them without approved dangerous-goods packaging and authorization;
- puncture, compress, bend, dismantle, or attempt to discharge them; or
- continue charging or using a battery that is swelling, leaking, overheating, smoking, or producing an unusual odour.
Customers must contact 3C-Easy Markham before bringing a damaged, defective, swollen, leaking, burned, or recalled battery to the store.
Acceptance will depend on whether the battery can be safely received and handled under the applicable Call2Recycle and transportation requirements.
Where the battery cannot be safely accepted, the customer may be directed to an appropriate municipal hazardous-waste depot or another facility equipped to handle damaged, defective, or recalled batteries.
A battery that is actively smoking, burning, rapidly heating, hissing, or otherwise presenting an immediate hazard must not be transported to the store. Customers should move away from the immediate area when safe to do so and contact local emergency services where necessary.
Batteries Removed During Repair
Where a battery is removed during a repair performed by 3C-Easy Markham, the customer may authorize the Company to retain it for appropriate recycling.
Once a battery has been surrendered for recycling, it generally cannot be returned because it may be isolated for safety, consolidated with other batteries, or transferred to the recycling program.
Shipping Restrictions for Replacement Batteries
Replacement lithium-ion batteries sold separately are eligible only for approved ground shipping within Canada.
Replacement batteries cannot be shipped:
- to the United States;
- by air;
- to destinations or postal codes not served by an approved ground method; or
- through a carrier or service that does not accept the applicable battery classification.
Shipping availability may also be restricted because of battery condition, size, capacity, destination, weather, carrier requirements, or changes to dangerous-goods regulations.
Damaged, defective, swollen, leaking, burned, or recalled batteries are not eligible for ordinary customer return shipping. Customers must contact 3C-Easy Markham before attempting to return any battery showing signs of damage.
Environmental Responsibility
Proper battery recycling helps recover reusable materials, reduces unnecessary waste, and prevents batteries from entering waste streams where they may create environmental and fire hazards.
