Maximum fast charging capacity for Apple's iPhones

Prelude: It is recommended to read this in order to learn more about USB-C fast charging protocols before reading this article. It offers a basic concept of what is USB-C fast charging and why it is important.

First of all, iPhone 5 to iPhone 7 series (including iPhone SE 1st gen): only supports up to 10 watts.

For this power, you do not really need a USB-C output plug, any USB-A plug should be able to do the job. Click here to see our recommendation.

Furthermore, for iPhone 8 to 14 series (including 12 pro series and iPhone SE 2nd & 3rd gen, but excluding 13 pro series and 14 pro series): supports PD fast charging protocol, up to 20 watts.

To fully utilize the max capacity, a decent 20 watts USB-C plug which also supports PD protocol is recommended. Click here to view our full set of chargers or here if you have your own cable.

Last but not least, the iPhone 13 pro and 14 pro series, supports the fastest capacity to date: PD fast charging protocol, up to 27 watts.

To fully utilize the max capacity, a good quality 30 watts USB-C plug which also supports PD protocol and dedicated 27 watts mode, is recommended. Click here to view our full set of charger or here if you have your own cable.

It is possible to use 10 watts charging on iPhone 14 pro max or 27 watts on iPhone 5. Apple has done a good job to make sure it would not damage the phone.

But you are missing out for sure.

Sept. 15, 2023 update: Despite new USB-C port, iPhone 15 series supports PD fast charging protocol, up to 20 watts, and iPhone 15 Pro series supports PD fast charging protocol, up to 27 watts. You never change Apple.
