Maximum fast charging capacity for Samsung Galaxy S series phones.
Prelude: It is recommended to read this in order to learn more about USB-C fast charging protocols before reading this article. It offers a basic concept of what is USB-C fast charging and why it is important.
First of all, any Samsung Galaxy S series phones with a micro-USB charging port, such as Samsung S6 series or S7 series, supports USB-A QC fast charging protocols, up to 15 watts.
This protocol is antiquated and hard to find plug that supports it, it would be easier to find a USB-A 10 watts plug and charge the device at normal speed. Click here to see our recommendation.Smartphone repair
Furthermore, for Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, and S10 series, they supports both USB-A QC fast charging protocol, up to 15 watts, and USB-C PD/QC fast charging protocol, up to 18 watts.
As mentioned above, it is better and easier to find a plug that supports USB-C PD/QC protocols. And since modern day plugs are downward compatible, any output exceed 18 watts could charge this category of devices at its optimal speed. Here is when things get a little more complicated.
For Samsung S20 series (excluding S20 Ultra), S21 Series (including S21 Ultra), they supports PPS fast charging protocol up to 25 watts.
Yes that is right, S21 Ultra is capped at 25 watts but the older S20 ultra supports a higher capacity. Click here to see our dedicated 25 watts plug for maximum charging speed.
Last but not least, for S20 Ultra, S22 series, S23 series, they all supports PPS fast charging protocol, up to 45 watts.
In order to achieve this capacity, a plug which can output a specific combination, 10 vol and 4.5 amps to be exact, is required. It is difficult to find a plug that has such narrow output since no other manufacturer uses 45 watts as a cap. Hence we recommend this to achieve 45 watts for these device.
