Important Notice: U.S. Tariffs on Canadian Goods

Effective February 4, 2025, the U.S. government has imposed tariffs on Canadian imports, including a 25% duty on most goods and a 10% tariff on energy exports. In response, Canada has introduced tariffs on various U.S. products. This may result in increased prices on affected items.

We encourage our customers to stay informed and plan accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.

Edit on May 15:

As of May 15, 2025, the United States has implemented significant changes to its tariff policies, particularly concerning trade with China.

U.S.-China Tariff Agreement

On May 12, 2025, the U.S. and China agreed to a 90-day reduction in tariffs to ease escalating trade tensions.

  • U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports: Reduced from 145% to 30%, which includes a 20% levy related to the fentanyl crisis.

  • Chinese tariffs on U.S. imports: Lowered from 125% to 10%.

This temporary truce aims to provide both nations with a window to negotiate a more comprehensive trade deal. The agreement has positively impacted global markets, with significant surges in stock indices and commodity prices.

De Minimis Tariff Adjustment

The U.S. has also adjusted tariffs on small-value shipments from China, reducing the "de minimis" tariff from 120% to 54%. This move further indicates a softening stance in the ongoing trade dispute.

Edit on April 09:

On April 9, President Trump announced a 90-day pause on the newly imposed tariffs for many countries, reducing most tariff rates to 10%. However, tariffs on Chinese imports were increased to 125%.

This escalation, aimed at countering China’s retaliatory tariffs, has triggered global market volatility and strained trade relations, with China responding by imposing an 84% tariff on U.S. goods.

To Canadian customer:

Please note that OtterBox has announced a price increase effective May 4th. This adjustment may signal a broader trend, as other U.S. accessory brands could also follow suit in the near future. We encourage customers to take advantage of current pricing while it lasts.

Edit on April 02:

To U.S. customer:

If you're purchasing Chinese-made products (even if they're U.S. brands) into the U.S., these will likely be subject to the new tariffs—up to 54%, combining previous and new tariffs on Chinese goods.

  • Key point: It doesn’t matter if the product is sold from Canada or carries a U.S. brand—the country of origin (China) determines tariff applicability.

To Canadian customer:

There is NO direct impact from U.S. tariffs.

Because:

  • U.S. tariffs only apply to goods imported into the United States.

  • Canada sets its own trade policies, independent of U.S. tariff actions.

  • So, unless Canada itself imposes tariffs on Chinese goods (which it hasn’t announced as of now), our store isn't affected by the U.S. policy when selling domestically in Canada.

Edit on March 04:

As of March 4, 2025, President Donald Trump has implemented significant tariffs affecting major U.S. trading partners.

Canada and Mexico: A 25% tariff on imports from both nations took effect today, following a 30-day suspension period.

Edit on Feb 25:

U.S. tarrif is scheduled to be in effiect on March 04, 2025.

Edit on Feb 03 :

The U.S. tariff has been temporarily paused for 30 days, allowing a brief reprieve on affected imports.
