Premium Hard OLED Quality Notes

This Premium screen uses Hard OLED technology.

Hard OLED panels use individually illuminated OLED pixels on a rigid substrate. They provide many of the visual advantages of OLED technology while remaining more affordable than flexible Soft OLED or original Apple OLED options.

Potential advantages of Hard OLED construction include:

  • True black levels
  • High contrast
  • Improved dark-scene performance
  • Better viewing angles than typical TFT LCD replacements
  • Faster pixel response
  • Improved motion clarity compared with many LCD conversions
  • Thinner construction than typical TFT LCD screens
  • Better power efficiency than many LCD replacements
  • More original-like colour and image quality than TFT LCD
  • No separate LCD backlight
  • More affordable pricing than Soft OLED or original OLED options

Hard OLED panels are rigid and may be more vulnerable to impact, bending, pressure, frame stress, or installation damage than flexible Soft OLED panels.

The panel can be damaged by:

  • Impact
  • Pressure
  • Bending
  • Twisting
  • Incorrect installation
  • Internal debris
  • Frame distortion
  • Misplaced screws
  • Swollen batteries
  • Excessive heat
  • Pressure around the Dynamic Island area
  • Forcing the screen into a bent housing
  • Uneven adhesive or improper bracket placement

Hard OLED should not be represented as having the same flexibility, fitment tolerance, or impact resistance as Soft OLED.

Comparison with Other Screen Grades

Regular TFT LCD

A Regular TFT LCD is generally the lowest-cost replacement option.

Compared with Premium Hard OLED, it may have:

  • Lower contrast
  • Gray-looking blacks
  • Increased thickness
  • Higher power consumption
  • Reduced viewing angles
  • Reduced motion clarity
  • Poorer housing fitment
  • More pressure on the housing or screen edges
  • Reduced or unavailable ProMotion performance
  • Reduced or different Always-On Display behaviour
  • Less original-like Dynamic Island appearance
  • Less original-like colour and image quality

Premium Hard OLED generally provides a more original-like viewing experience than a TFT LCD conversion screen.

Premium Plus Soft OLED

Premium Plus Soft OLED uses a flexible OLED substrate rather than the rigid substrate used by Hard OLED.

Compared with Premium Hard OLED, Soft OLED may provide:

  • Greater flexibility
  • Better resistance to minor frame stress
  • Improved impact tolerance
  • Thinner or more forgiving construction
  • Better housing fitment
  • Reduced risk of sitting above the frame
  • Better fitment around the Dynamic Island area
  • Lower likelihood of internal OLED damage from minor housing stress
  • More original-like panel geometry
  • More consistent long-term fitment

Premium Hard OLED may provide similar basic OLED contrast and true black levels but is generally more rigid and less forgiving during installation or impact.

Refurbished Original OLED

A refurbished original screen retains an original Apple OLED panel that has undergone restoration, normally including replacement of the damaged outer glass.

A refurbished original screen may provide performance closer to the original factory display, including more consistent brightness, colour, ProMotion operation, Always-On Display behaviour, Dynamic Island appearance, and fitment.

However, refurbished original displays may also carry:

  • Cosmetic variation
  • Brightness variation
  • Previous usage
  • Burn-in or image-retention risk
  • Differences caused by the refurbishment process
  • Limited availability

Genuine Service Replacement

A genuine service replacement generally offers the strongest likelihood of factory-like:

  • Brightness
  • Colour calibration
  • Dynamic Island alignment
  • Fitment
  • ProMotion behaviour
  • Always-On Display behaviour
  • HDR performance
  • Power efficiency
  • Long-term consistency

The Premium Hard OLED option is intended to provide a balance between price and OLED display quality. It should not be represented as equal to Premium Plus Soft OLED, refurbished original OLED, or genuine Apple service replacement options.

OLED Display Characteristics

Unlike LCD screens, OLED displays use individually illuminated pixels and do not require a separate backlight.

Potential OLED benefits include:

  • True black levels
  • High contrast
  • Better dark-scene performance
  • Improved viewing angles
  • Thinner construction
  • Better power efficiency with dark content
  • Faster pixel response

  • Spreading black areas
  • Vertical or horizontal lines
  • Green, white, or coloured screen
  • Flickering
  • Partial image
  • No image
  • Touch failure
  • Image distortion

Internal OLED damage caused by impact, pressure, bending, housing distortion, or installation is not considered a manufacturing defect.

Dynamic Island Notice

The iPhone 15 Pro Max uses Apple’s Dynamic Island display layout around the front camera and TrueDepth sensor area.

A replacement screen must align correctly with the Dynamic Island opening and upper sensor area.

Depending on the replacement screen, production batch, software version, and installation quality, differences may include:

  • Slight variation in Dynamic Island edge appearance

  • Display-controller design
  • Production batch
  • Type of content displayed

The replacement screen may consume more or less power than the original display depending on its controller, brightness, displayed content, refresh-rate behaviour, Always-On Display behaviour, and production batch.

A change in battery runtime after screen replacement does not automatically indicate a battery or screen defect.

Touchscreen Performance Notice

The replacement screen includes an integrated capacitive touchscreen layer.

Touch performance should be tested across the complete display before final installation.

Test:

  • Centre of the screen
  • All four edges
  • All four corners
  • Keyboard area

  • Logic-board faults
  • Installation pressure
  • Housing distortion
  • Poor-quality charging accessories
  • Thick or incompatible screen protectors
  • Software problems
  • Another defective component

A screen protector should be installed only after the replacement display has been tested and confirmed functional.

Fitment and Rigid-Panel Notice

Hard OLED screens are thinner than many TFT LCD conversion screens but use a rigid substrate.

Compared with Soft OLED, a Hard OLED panel is less flexible and less tolerant of:

  • Bent housings
  • Frame distortion
  • Uneven adhesive
  • Internal debris
  • Installation pressure
  • Forceful screen seating
  • Misaligned brackets
  • Swollen batteries
  • Edge pressure
  • Twisting

Proper fitment depends on:

  • Frame straightness
  • Complete removal of old adhesive
  • Correct sensor and bracket placement
  • Correct flex-cable routing
  • Absence of debris
  • Battery condition
  • Installation quality
  • Correct replacement-part selection

A bent or damaged housing may prevent correct screen fitment and may place pressure on the replacement display.

Do not force the screen into a distorted frame.

If the replacement screen does not sit evenly, remove it and identify the obstruction before applying pressure.

Apple Display Notification and Software Notice

Depending on the iOS version, replacement component, and installation procedure:

  • A display-related notification may appear
  • An “Unable to Verify” or similar message may be displayed
  • Parts and Service History may record the screen replacement
  • True Tone may become unavailable
  • Display calibration may differ from the original configuration
  • Brightness or colour behaviour may change
  • ProMotion behaviour may differ
  • Always-On Display behaviour may differ
  • Dynamic Island appearance may vary
  • Additional programming may be required to retain supported functions

A display-related notification does not necessarily mean that the replacement screen is defective.

Software updates may change how replacement displays, calibration, repair history, and notifications are handled.

True Tone Notice

True Tone may be unavailable after screen replacement unless the required original display data is transferred using compatible programming equipment.

Preserving True Tone may require:

  • A readable original screen
  • Compatible display-programming equipment
  • Transfer of original display data
  • Replacement-screen support for transferred data
  • Proper installation

True Tone restoration is not guaranteed.

Programming equipment, display-data transfer, and calibration services are not included with the screen.

Face ID and Front-Sensor Notice

Screen replacement does not normally require replacing the original Face ID or TrueDepth components.

The original front camera, infrared camera, dot projector, proximity sensor, ambient-light sensor, and related TrueDepth components should be retained whenever possible.

Improper handling may cause:

  • Face ID becoming unavailable
  • TrueDepth camera errors
  • Proximity-sensor failure
  • Automatic-brightness problems
  • Front-camera problems
  • Attention-aware features becoming unavailable

A replacement screen will not repair existing Face ID or TrueDepth faults.

Handle all upper-sensor and camera-related components carefully during installation.

Do not apply excessive pressure around the Dynamic Island or upper sensor area.

Installation Notes

Professional installation is strongly recommended.

Replacing the screen requires opening the device and transferring or retaining delicate internal components.

  28. Do not seal the device until all functions have been fully tested.

Do not force connectors into place.

Bent pins, damaged sockets, torn flex cables, excessive pressure, or incorrect screw placement may permanently damage the screen or logic board.

Hard OLED panels are especially sensitive to pressure and frame distortion. Internal debris, misplaced screws, swollen batteries, bent housings, or incorrectly positioned components may cause internal OLED damage even when the outer glass remains intact.

No tools, adhesive, replacement display seal, brackets, screws, programming equipment, or installation materials are included.

Water-Resistance Notice

Opening the device compromises the original factory seal.

A replacement perimeter display seal may help reduce exposure to dust and incidental moisture, but original water resistance cannot be restored or guaranteed after repair.

Proper installation and fitment may improve perimeter seating, but they do not restore the original factory water-resistance rating.

Avoid exposing a repaired device to:

  • Water
  • Steam
  • Rain
  • High humidity
  • Condensation
  • Other liquids

No claim of restored factory water resistance should be made after installation.
